CHARACTER STUFF back

A similar form should be used when you submit a character. You begin at Level 3 with 30 xp (and 20 background points). A character history is expected by the third event, and can earn an additional 12 background points (and plot opportunities!).

CHARACTER CREATION

  1. Start with a character concept to guide you through the rest of character creation. Keep it in mind through every step.

Examples: Farmer, Viking, Priest of <god>, Necromancer, Hunter

  1. Specify any desired (not guaranteed) non-defaults.

Examples: Non-human (fae, lesser one), Immigrant (British, Irish, European), Non-Norse (Atheist, Christian, other)

3.    Pick a class based on your character concept.

Examples: Viking – Fighter, Priest – Godhi, Necromancer – summoner

4.    Spend 30 xp on skills, based on your character concept.

Examples: Farmer (body 2, all pole, defense 2), Viking (body 2, all weapon, off hand, disarm 1), Priest of Odin (healing, Rune 11), Necromancer (sword, create undead 1, Chaos Mana 14)

5.    Choose a/several god(s) if you wish. There is no penalty for not choosing (resurrection is not guaranteed for those with a god either). There can be bonuses and penalties for choosing based on how you act (how in favour you are with your god(s)), including resurrection and bad luck. Non-Norse gods require a detailed summary turned into Plot to count. This choice can be changed later, but keep in mind that too could have effects.

Examples: Viking – Thor, Warrior – Thor or Tyr, Priest of <god> – <god>, Necromancer – Loki, Law man – Tyr, Farmer – Freyr

6.    Pick one spirit animal (fylgja). There is no penalty for not picking, but there are possible bonus opportunities for picking. It should be an animal you/your character has a close connection to, based on your character concept.

Examples: Farmer – workhorse, Shepherd – ram, Viking – wolf or shark, Berserk – bear, Carpenter – beaver

7.    You must have a character name to play, preferably a Norse one (large list available)

Examples: Male: Thorsteinn, Thordr, Thorkell, Thorbjorn, Thorir, Thorgeir, Helgi, Thorarinn, Ketill, Bjorn, Thorgrimr, Grimr, Thorolfr, Thorgils, Einarr

Female: Thuridr, Thorgerdr, Thordis, Helga, Thorunn, Gudrun, Thora, Valgerdr, Yngvildr, Vigdis, Thorbjorg, Jorunn, Steinunn, Thorkatla, Halla

For more names see Common Norse Names

8.    You should have a character history. It helps you roleplay, gets you plot consideration, and earns extra background points to spend. Character history tips can be found here: How to Write a Character History

9.    Background points (start with a base of 20 + up to 12 for a character history) can be used to buy starting equipment or special ranks & opportunities (such as the titles of Priest (Godhi) or Jarl (landowner), servants, plot, etc.)
