RACES back
Humans
are the standard type of sentient creatures in Midgard…or at least the ones you
see. Humans were created by Odin from trees long, long ago, and eventually were
gifted with writing (Runes), thus beginning the Runic Era time is commonly
measured in in-game. Humans can hail from a variety of lands nowadays,
typically from Norway or close by countries.
Demifae
Demifae are the result of human and fae relations, or
sometimes less magical varieties of the Fae. They are often found living
amongst Humans with very few differences. These people are often shunned by
society for their more chaotic and magical ways. Most magic users of the lands
have fae blood in them. These fae still have strong connections to the land and
may be affected by nearby Taints upon the Earth. Most have an aversion to
certain metals, such as iron or treated iron (steel, cold iron). They act much
like fae as far as Humans can tell, very oddly, often having seemingly
meaningless or ridiculous rituals associated with normal actions. It is not
known how long a Demifae is capable of living
naturally, but quite a while to be sure.
Satyr
Wysp
Trollman
Pixie/Nixie
Dark AElf
AElf
Satyr
Many Demifae
can be recognized as such by a distinguishable physical feature, usually horns
in addition to other things (tails, hooves, etc.). These fae are known as
satyrs. They are usually the most drunken and raucous fae living amongst the
humans…or sometimes just out in the woods. Most demifae
that don’t live with humans or fae fall in with these rogues.
Required Costume: horns, comfortable
clothes or furry legs
Required Skills: 1 rank in
any Trade Skill
Wysp
Wysps are typically identified as fae by their pointy
ears and often odd coloration/marks. Many Wysps
actually fit into Human society well if not rejected initially for obvious
differences.
Required Costume:
unnatural skin colour or glitter or pointy ears
Required Skills: 6 xp worth of Magic
Trollman
These fae trolls are known
to be the strongest amongst demifae. Most of these
have a work relationship with humans, farms, or mills. Mills
especially, as many love to work there. If insulted, though, these fae act as most would, quitting their job, cursing the
place, tormenting the people, and leaving…perhaps to take up adventuring… Trollmen must be fighters.
Required Costume: slight
green tinted skin or old appearance, work clothes (often with tools)
Required Skills: 1 Attack
or 1 Defense, 1 Strength, 1 rank in any Trade Skill
Pixie/Nixie
Pixies (and their aquatic
cousins, Nixies), are smaller winged fae creatures most likely the closest to
full blooded fae creatures. Most cannot use their wings to fly, but like to
fancy themselves able to. They are energetic and fast paced creatures of Air
(and/or Water), Nixies being a little slower paced and more mysterious. Nixies
are amphibious. These fae, especially Pixies, cannot stand to see things
confined against their will. They may purchase True Magic releasing spells,
such as Free Limb (4xp), Unensnare (4), Unbind (8), Free (16), and Liberate
(26).
Required Costume: (Pixie) White
or translucent wings, skimpy thin lightweight bright or light colored clothes,
light blue or yellow/gold swirls across face and/or body. (Nixie) translucent,
light blue or light green wings, light blue or green tinted skin with blue
swirls across face and/or body, green-ish clothes
good for swimming
Required Skills: 1 Dodge, cannot
start with extra body points (can only spend as much XP on Body as spent on
their Magic – Air for Pixies, Water for Nixies), no Bindings, 1 Free or 2nd
Dodge, Theft Skill or 2 Free Limbs
Dark Aelf
This variety of fae is
typically very sneaky and mean. They cause the condition “aelf
shot” from Norse lore. In addition to their malevolence, they are also powerful
and extremely gold-greedy smiths.
Required Costume: short,
black skin, white hair
Required Skills: Smith 10,
Weapon Skill, 1 CHA poison
Elf
Elves are the least
noticeable of fae, often closely resembling Humans except one trait, such as
pointy ears or a tail. Other types of demifae are
usually similar to elves.
Required Costume: pointy
ears, tail, or approved replacement
Required Skills: none
Lesser One
Lesser Ones are a rarer
type of sentient being resembling a human with the
features and abilities of an animal (usually a mammal). It is not certain how
these creatures came to be, but they usually come from others of their own kind
(occasionally from relations between a human and a lesser one). Most Humans
consider Lesser Ones inferior, and often use them as slave labor. Many Lesser
Ones do not trust humans. Lesser Ones can be found in many lands, but for some
reason tend to gather closest to the game area. Lesser Ones must act according
to their race and have appropriate makeup, as well as having skills appropriate
for their race. Almost all Lesser Ones must be fighters. The following are
recommendations, in no way a complete list: Wolf (attack, hunting), Bear (body,
defense), Boar (attack, defense), Cat (dodge, attack), Rat (dodge, scavenger,
not dis/arm traps), Rabbit (dodge), Cow (body, no
dodges)
