Symbols: Vary by god (see below) Pantheism is the most common Varian religion. It is the official religion of Jerithium, the dominant religion of Carthane, and is found in all nations of Varia, though it is uncommon in Vashur and Morundar. During the Time of Ashes, when the Old Gods fell into slumber, the world was left devastated and suffering. No one knows exactly what happened to the Old Gods or why, but it is said their passage caused the first of the New Gods, Liera and Toris, to be born from the moon and the sun. Many believe they were deliberately left behind to watch over the world in the absence of the Old Gods. The first-born of Toris and Liera were the twins Marael (Death) and Danan (Life), followed by Arla (Harvest), Rakasha (War), and Gorn (Beasts). More followed, and soon the Pantheon swelled to such size that it is said even their priests do not know the names of all the Gods. The Gods dwell on the hidden isle of Astypalea. Suffering is unknown there - no one is ever cold or hungry or sad, and they remain ever young. Pantheists hope their spirits will go there when they die and dwell in the gardens of the Gods, but the Death Goddess is said to imprison evildoers atop a mountain, naked and freezing, made to suffer as their victims suffered in life. Most Pantheists bear the symbol of their patron, either as a pendant or as embroidery upon their clothing, although some also add the symbols of any other gods whose favor they desire, and a few wear the symbols of all the gods, just in case. Though many choose one patron, all Pantheists respect and honor all the Gods. Pantheists tend to be open-minded, accepting new ideas as just another part of the Gods' world they didn't know about before, and they are tolerant of other religions. Though there are Pantheist Gods without number, very few Pantheists know the names and aspects of more than the Nineteen major gods; most Pantheists only reliably remember the names of the Gods most relevant to their lifestyles. Priests may serve one God, a few Gods, or all the Gods equally.
