I write and recite poetry, and have been doing so for decades. Much of my poetry tends to be structured, with medieval and renaissance flavors; I use sonnets very frequently. Part of this comes from the years that I spent performing at renaissance faires or in the medieval reenactment group, the SCA. If you like this sort of thing, that's fantastic. If you do not, then I would not recommend that you read it - stick with the free and blank verse instead (note that the categories below are not fully consistent).
