The Gauntlet was an experimental hovercraft, one of the high-tech devices of Chiteng. It had been sent on a mission to find someone by the higher ranking members of the Church of Chiteng, when it was taken by the storm. Of the four people onboard, only two survived to wash up on the shores of this accursed island. They speak little of their ship and their mission, though some discussion about making an attempt to recover the communications array or other equipment from the sunken remains has been made.

A
priest and officer in the Army of Chiteng, Lysander has known only the
military life. Cut off from his chain of command and without instructions, Lysander
was unpredictable and often erratic during the early months of his stay on the
island. However as summer turns to fall and the final battle with the Yama fades
into memory, Lysander has been acting less and less as the other shipwrecked
have come to expect.
Akilah is a priest of Chiteng, previously the Lieutenant of
a guardian unit in his military. Trained for leadership and tactics, she
is courageous, adaptable, and steadfastly determined to serve the common
good. To that end, despite her recent arrival, she has dedicated herself
to the defense of the stockade and its inhabitants.
